Can you really make $1000 without leaving the house? Yes you can and more (Well small disclosure you have to leaving the house to post your items).
Most of us have old items laying around the house, garage or shed that we no longer use or need. Well gather up those items on follow this guide to getting things sold on eBay.
We have sold lots of different items on eBay from old console games, shoes, old clothes. There is so many different things on eBay that people are will to buy. Remember one persons trash is another persons treasure.
1. What to sell?
Literally just about anything (nothing illegal, weapons, animals etc.) but pretty much anything else. To give you some ideas these are some of the things that we have sold on eBay.
Old console games can sell very well and sometimes for good prices. So if you have any old Megadrive, PS1, PS2 or any other console games wipe the dust of and get them sold.
Old kids clothes, kids grow so fast there is often plenty of life still left in their shoes and clothes. Branded ones usually sell pretty well, like Nike, Adidas etc.
Old phones and tablets have performed well and sold for good prices. They were just sitting in a draw not being used.
Other items we have sold include ornaments, sports equipment, books, some old computer parts.
2. What price to sell you items?
You can set the price at anything you want to, but if it higher than people are willing to pay then your item won’t sell.
The easiest way to find the selling price is to search on eBay for the item you are going to sell. When you have done the search, you will see a list of items that people are selling. However this does not tell you what price they are selling for. In the filters, scroll down until you see sold and completed items. Select those two boxes and your search now shows only items that sold.

From the sold listings you can see, when, how much and how many bids an item got. I normal go through a few listings to establish a price for the item I want to sell.
3. Photograph your items
You don’t need a fancy camera, your phone will do the job just fine. I have seen a lot of other blog posts on other blogs saying you need white backgrounds etc. but a plain background works fine. For small items I just used my kitchen table and for larger items they sit on the wooden floor in the lounge next to a plain section of wall.
Make sure you take pictures of details of your item including any imperfections. eBay lets you add up to 12 pictures.
Make sure your items are clean and if you are selling clothes it wouldn’t hurt to run an iron over them. Remember we are trying to make $1000, no one wants dirty or creased items.
4. Create your listing
Now the pictures are done, it’s time to crate your listing. Make sure you add as many details as possible, this increases the chance of your listing being seen. Include details of any imperfections in the item.
The more people see the listing, the more chance of a sale and make $1000.
Buy it now or auction, well in my experience auctions perform better for second hand items. Evenings and weekends are popular times to browse eBay so I time the listing to be added in an evening and run across a weekend.
Set your price inline with the rices you found in step 2.
The next decision is postage, do you ship it for free or charge for it. This depends on where you live, we are based in Australia and post is pretty expensive. For small items that can go as a letter like PS3 games for example go free postage as it’s only a couple dollars postage. Anything larger than that, the postage is charged separately.
5. Package and post your item
After your items sells, package it up and ship it as soon as possible. Leave feedback for the buyer.
Repeat to each items you have to sell.
Conclusion
It’s pretty easy to sell your unused items on eBay and generate some extra cash and make $1000. This number is also fairly conservative, if you really look and clear out your old stuff this number could easily double or even triple.
